Funding Security Research

The Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) has been around for 37 years now.  During that time, several large studies have been funded that benefit the security industry.

Recently, their 11th Annual Golf Tournament concluded in Las Vegas at ISC West.  It was an opportunity for companies and individuals to show support for AIREF’s mission, which serves as a research and education arm of the security industry through the Electronic Security Association (http://www.esaweb.org/).

SIAC strongly supports AIREF (http://www.airef.org/).  The reason is simple:  They do good work that supports best interests of our industry.  We use their resources regularly in our treks to develop better alarm ordinances and education local officials on the benefits of alarm systems.

Check out their web site.  You’ll find good information.  Their most recent research, for example, yielded information about the positive deterrent effects of alarm systems.  The study, by the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, examined the decision-making processes of 422 randomly-selected burglars who are in prison.  That’s information you can use in your sales efforts.

You can also help support AIREF’s efforts.  Next time you head out to ISC West, check into the AIREF Golf Tournament.  As a non-profit research organization, contributions to AIREF are always helpful.
