Go the extra step on background checks. You never know who might be trying to slip by you and slip something from one of your customer’s homes or businesses. We know because we’ve been serving in the security industry for many years.
SIAC is a strong supporter of background checks for individuals working in the electronic security industry. When customers trust us with their homes, possessions and personal safety, it’s incumbent on us as an industry to ensure our employees have a clean background.
And your company should do more than a “simple” check. It should do a “thorough” check. There are cases, certainly rare, where a bad apple has gotten through the screening process. That’s not good for the company that hires that individual or the security industry as a whole.
The customer model in our industry is based on trust. Customers trust we will do the right thing – Protect their homes and businesses to the best of our abilities.
The quality of the individuals we hire is enhanced when states mandate background checks. SIAC supports this. At the same time, we also recognize that our industry is not perfect. Problems arise in the hiring process sometimes, even for police departments.
A mistake is not an indictment of the company doing the hiring or the industry as a whole. Instead, it is a wake-up call to always be vigilant and take extra steps so electronic security companies go above and beyond the call of duty to give customers the greatest assurance possible regarding their safety.
